“This superb production sets a new standard in popular books on native flora… [The] illustrations bring to life the often tiny distinguishing botanical details and make for easy identification of plants by the untrained botanist. The text and illustrations constantly draw attention to the relationship of plants with the broader environment, the effects of fire, the role of pollinators and the importance of fungi.
The section on orchids, in which the area is outstandingly rich with over 130 species, highlights the fascinating adaptations of these plants in order to attract specific pollinating insects. This book, the first of two volumes… will make a very valuable contribution to the heightening of public interest in native flora and the preservation of this outstanding natural region of Victoria.”
From the Foreword by John Landy, Governor of Victoria 2001-2006
