A Field Guide to Frogs of Australia will help you identify all the frogs hopping and croaking their way around New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, southern South Australia and southern Queensland. A key, with drawings of distinguishing features, plus a colour photograph and distribution map of each frog, will help you to identify your species.
This book has been developed from the New South Wales Frog Watch Program, a frog-monitoring program involving schools and amateur herpetologists. Frogs are not only important elements in many food chains valuable to humans; they are also good environmental indicators, especially of water quality. Their health, abundance and distribution are linked to the levels of pesticides and other toxins in wet ecosystems.
Martyn Robinson currently works in the Science and Communication Unit at the Australian Museum in Sydney promoting and explaining natural history and the work of the Museum's scientists. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Biology and has worked at the Museum for more than 20 years. He has published and illustrated scientific papers on many animals and written natural history articles for popular magazines and books, including the Green Guide to Dangerous Creatures. He has also been involved in gathering information on frog populations for the New South Wales Frog Watch Program and the Frog and Tadpole Study Group.
